ADMISSION TO CAREER-ORIENTED PROGRAMMES
The Centre for Development Studies will mount the following career-oriented programmes from June to August 2008, except where specific dates have been indicated.
1. M. A. (GSD) Governance and Sustainable Development – [Employing problem based – learning methodology; this programme is offered in modules and seeks to integrate environmental management and good governance issues for sustainable development. The programme targets District Assembly staff, staff of decentralized departments, traditional authorities, NGO personnel and all persons interested in local level development management].
2. M.A. (EMP) Environmental Management and Policy – [targeting NGO personnel, District Assembly staff and staff of environmental management agencies].
3. M. A. (HRD) Human Resource Development – [targeting HRD personnel, principal officers of Training Institutions, NGOs and Consulting firms].
4. M. A. (HRM) Human Resource Management – [targeting HRM personnel, principal officers of schools, Trade Unions, employers and NGO executives].
5. M.A. (DGL) Democracy, Governance, Law and Development – [targeting Members of Parliament, DCEs, NGO personnel, Traditional Authorities].
6. **M.A. (PDS) Peace and Development Studies – This is a programme of the Faculty of Social Sciences jointly organised by the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) and the Department of Sociology but hosted at the CDS. The Programme targets staff of Security Agencies, Traditional Authorities, District Assemblies, Religious organisations, Judiciary, Media, Public and Civil Services and Political Parties.
7. Post-Graduate Certificate in Labour Policy Studies (LPS) – [targeting top level Trade Union Executives, HRM personnel and employers].
8. Diploma in Labour Studies (DLS) (undergraduate) – [targeting middle-level Trade Union personnel, HRM practitioners and employers].
These are sandwich programmes to be offered over two long vacation periods, except the post-graduate certificate programme in Labour Policy Studies, which will be offered from April to July this year.
Entry Requirements
Post-graduate programmes
The courses are available to First Degree holders with second class or higher. Provision is made for special candidates without the above qualification but who have demonstrated leadership in development management in NGOs, civil society organisations, the public service, industry and international organisations. Such candidates must be 45 years old by June 2008.
Diploma in Labour Studies (DLS) – Candidates must possess any of the following:
- Certificate in Labour Studies from the University of Cape Coast or its equivalent
- SSSCE/WASSCE with credit passes in English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
- GCE ‘A’ level passes in three subjects and ‘O’ level credit passes in English and Mathematics.
- GCE ‘O’ level passes in five subjects including English and Mathematics. Such candidates will have to pass a special entrance examination.
Fees (Fresh Students)
Admission is on fee-paying basis as follows:
- MA (EMP, DGL, GSD, HRD) – GH¢ 1,285 or ¢12,850,000.00 per sandwich semester.
- MA (HRM) - GH ¢1,350 or 13,500,000.00 per sandwich semester .
- MA (PDS) - GH ¢1,800 or 18,000,000.00 per sandwich semester.
- Diploma in Labour Studies – GH ¢ 735 or 7,350,000.00 per sandwich semester.
- Postgraduate Certificate in Labour Policy Studies GH ¢1,500 or ¢15,000,000.00
Fees (Continuing Students)
- MA (EMP, DGL, GSD, HRM, HRD) – GH ¢1,170 or ¢11,700,000.00.
- Diploma in Labour Studies - GH¢ 680 or ¢6, 800,000.00

Interested persons can obtain application forms from the Cashier’s office, University of Cape Coast and UCC Guest House at Tesano, Accra. Completed application forms must be returned to the Registrar, University of Cape Coast on or before February 15th, 2008. Late application forms will not be considered. Candidates will be responsible for their own boarding and lodging.
